Day of Puppets with The Vaudeville Puppets

April 19, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Puppets and music at a seaside castle can only mean it’s Hammond Castle Museum’s Day of Puppetry!

Bring your little ones (and not so little ones) down to the Hammond Castle Museum for a day of puppet antics, laughter and musical numbers aplenty with the Vaudeville Puppets

You will be regaled with the family-friendly tomfooleries of puppet-master, Peter A. Cancilla’s Vaudeville Puppets including: Laughing Allegra, Miles Marcus, Prof. Monster Johnson (who is not scary at all) and Paul Revere’s famous Horse the steed they call Brown Beauty of course! Mr. Dan Jakes will try to contain these kooky critters armed only with six strings, on his guitar that is, while his musical mastery will have you boogying too. Sing along with the gang to some well-known favorites and be amongst the first to hear the world-debut of The Ballad of John Hays Hammond Jr.

Performances are at 11am and at 1pm. Tickets are $15 each and reservations are required.

RESERVE YOUR TICKETS HERE!

Brooklyn-born Peter A. Cancilla is a motion picture producer, puppet fabricator, actor, animator, and puppeteer. Peter began studying animation and puppetry early in life. As a child he delighted in Looney Tunes and Sesame Street and while fully embracing the fantasy, as any young viewer would, he was simultaneously observing and absorbing the technique and craft the animators and performers applied to this illusion of life. "Knowing how they did it, I was not disillusioned. It somehow made me believe in these characters all the more adamantly." As he got older, he grew to fully appreciate that these artists imbued those inanimate objects with the ability to evoke an emotional connection, making them a choice tool in his own storytelling. In 2001, Peter established Vaudeville Pictures in Boston Massachusetts, where he crafts stories through the mediums of motion picture and live performance. His video production services provide communication solutions for agencies and businesses with documentary, commercial and industrial filmmaking. Still the favorite tools of his trade are those inanimate objects” which he has assembled into a cast of critters, creatures and kooks known as The Vaudeville Puppets. Says Cancilla, An animated character can often engage an audience more readily and effectively than another human being. This connection can be even deeper with puppetry because of its tangible presence. The puppets exist in the real world. They interact in real time. They invite you to play and they give adults permission to use their imagination. To embrace the fantasy. Now the Vaudeville Puppets are out there in the real world, not tools and techniques but individuals. They are friendly neighbors, musicians, teachers, journalists and storytellers; I just give them a hand.”
