About

Hammond’s “castle” is one of the truly amazing venues in the United States. It was conceived and erected to incorporate one man’s private collection of original European artifacts. Its major architectural elements include doorways, archways, windows, decorative surfaces, alcoves, fireplaces, and even entire facades of medieval shops and dwellings. He personally selected the items, had them shipped here, and directed his architectural firm to incorporated them within a structure using locally sourced materials. The inventor in Hammond went even further by embedding many clever techniques and revolutionary technologies to enhance the sounds, appearance, and climate, to achieve an overall indoor environment of a unique lifestyle. Once the pieces arrived, the construction alone following the design cost $500,000, a princely sum during those times.
