My ambition is to leave a modest, but beautiful museum.  In a few years, after I am gone, all my scientific creations will be old-fashioned and forgotten. In these days even careers are soon forgotten, only that which meets the eye remains. A few students dig us up, the world goes on. Where will our name be in 100 years? I want to build something in hard stone to engrave on it for posterity a name of which I am justly proud.”  John Hays Hammond Jr. wrote in a letter to his father in 1924.

Hammond Castle Museum is a towering testament to the vision of the prolific inventor, and our founder, John Hays Hammond Jr. As a small, independent non-profit, the Museum has provided educational opportunities to the greater community for 45 consecutive seasons. Built nearly 100 years ago and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Museum preserves the unique home and rare collection of medieval architectural artifacts of one of Cape Ann’s most interesting residents.

The unprecedented events of 2020 have affected all of us in ways we never anticipated.  In 2019, the Museum welcomed over 35,000 visitors from across the globe.  In 2020, we expected to exceed that number, but due to state mandated restrictions we had to adapt.  We kept hard at work, selling out tours and events this season on a limited capacity.

The essence and experience of Hammond Castle Museum is as vibrant as ever,

but right now your help is more important than ever!

Your financial support would be instrumental in the continued preservation of this North Shore and National Registry of Historic Places landmark.  Your contribution in 2021 would help the Museum realize many urgent goals in 2022; from large scale maintenance projects to adaptations of Museum presentations in line with the new reality of the COVID world.

Some ways your contribution would help are:

  • Installing a new sprinkler system
  • Shoring up the bell tower archways and the building envelope to prevent leaks and damage
  • Creating virtual content and offering new exhibits, educational programming, and community-based events

Will you join us in preserving this valuable part of history?
