Candlelight Tours

From: $20.00

Thursday Night Candlelight Tours: Following the advice of mentor Alexander Graham Bell, John Hays Hammond Jr. conducted the majority of his work in the evening. While this put Hammond at odds with the rest of the inhabitants of the castle – including his wife Irene – he concluded that working throughout the night and sleeping during the day positively impacted his work as an inventor.

With this in mind, “Candlelight tours” are offered Thursday evenings through the end of September. Guides will escort visitors through the castle’s many rooms, placing an emphasis on the Hammonds themselves and the time that they spent in their castle home. Visit and immerse yourself in the lost era of quiet luxury and candlelight.

Thursday Evening Picnics:  We are pleased to offer guests with Thursday evening Candlelight Tour tickets the opportunity to picnic on our ocean-facing lawn starting one hour prior to the ticketed time. Reservations are free but required in order to access the lawn. Guests will need to adhere to a strict carry-in and carry-out policy as well as social distancing guidelines.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have developed a Code of Safety in an effort to maintain the health and wellness of all our guests and staff while offering a safer, enjoyable experience. Before purchasing your tickets, please view our policy below.

At this time, we are offering a hybrid of a guided and self-guided tour to facilitate timed movement through the museum. In keeping with the Massachusetts State Reopening Regulations, the number of guests permitted in the Museum at any given time is strictly limited. Visitors are required to purchase timed tour tickets in advance of their arrival as tour tickets will not be sold on premises. Each tour group is limited to 20 guests.  Children four and under are free but require a ticket. Tickets grant access to the interior of the Museum for a period of approximately 60 minutes.

**Hammond Castle Museum Members: Please call us at 978-283-2080 so we may assist in securing your reservation.**

Check in begins 15 minutes prior to the ticketed tour time. Heavy traffic should be considered when planning your travel time.     Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate those who arrive more than 10 minutes past the start of their ticketed tour time Please note: all ticket sales are final and exchanges for other tour times are not offered.
