*Canceled* Once Upon A Time… An Enchanting Musical Review

Join us as Hello Friends presents Once Upon A Time, an evening of enchanted music and storytelling!

The first half of the performance features a review of beloved songs from Broadway shows such as Sunset Boulevard, Man of La Mancha, Legally Blonde, Shrek The Musical, Hadestown, and Finding Neverland.

And in the second half, get ready as Bobby Kerrigan narrates a modern-day retelling of the classic fairytale, Cinderella.

And in the second half, get ready for a modern-day retelling of the classic fairytale, Cinderella, with popular hits from the 50’s through today with music from artist such as Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Dolly Parton, The Proclaimers and more!  They are sure to have us all laughing, toe-tapping, and singing right along with this family-friendly show!

Featuring the voices and antics of Bobby Kerrigan, Kelly Murphy, Thom Smoker, April Foley, Becky Pehner Ruccio, Crystal VanArdsdalen, Tom Edmonds, Andrew Hankinson and Sean Murphy.

Shows begin at 7pm, doors open at 6:30pm. Parking is always free.

Tom Edmonds has been performing throughout the North Shore for over 40 years.  From 1979-1988 he performed with Crossroad Company at various venues and as the in house dinner theater troupe at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus. More recently he was a member of Bova Productions which presented an annual fundraiser for MSPCC. In addition to fundraisers, Tom appeared in many dinner theater productions with Bova Productions. Some of his favorite memories have come from musical productions with community theater groups such as:  Marblehead Little Theater and Nahant Peninsula Players. These memories include: Godspell, Fiddler On The Roof, My Fair Lady, Man Of La Mancha, 1776, and Young Frankenstein. Tom has also been a church soloist for many years in his hometown of Beverly.

 

 


April Baldwin Foley has been singing professionally and been a performer and director in community theater for the past 35 years. She has a music degree from Tufts University, also having studied at NEC, Longy and Berklee. April was honored by EMACT with Dash nominations for Best Actress in her portrayals of Eva Peron in Evita and Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. Other favorite past roles include Velma VonTussle (Hairspray), Anna (The King & I), Sally (Follies), Mame (Mame), Lily (Secret Garden), Gabby/Bobbi in City of Angels, and Sister Robert Anne (Nunsense).  By day she is a Voice Over and Narration Talent and is the lead singer of the band, The Jazz Disciples.

 

Andrew Hankinson is originally hails from northern Vermont.  He studied at Oberlin College, before moving back east to find his calling. Andrew has spent a great deal of his life involved with local theater and has performed in a number of shows. Some of his favorites include Titanic, 1776Wonderful Town, The Sound of Music, The Secret Garden, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Mamma Mia, Beauty and the Beast and Cabaret, and he is excited to be performing again.


Bobby Kerrigan has been producing, directing and acting on stage in the Boston  area for over twenty five years. He recently directed ‘Titanic:the Musical’, “The Addams Family” and “To Kill a Mockingbird” all for Stage 284 in Hamilton.  Some of bobby’s favorite musical roles include, Javert in two productions of “Les Miserables” The Pirate King in “Pirates of Penzance”, King Arthur in Spamalot, Tevye in “Fiddler on the Roof”, Wilbur Turnblad in “Hairspray”, Dr.Jekyll/Hyde in “Jekyll/Hyde The  Musical, Don Quixote in “Man of La Mancha”, George Banks in Mary Poppins,   Sir Lancelot in “Camelot”, Jud Fry in Oklahoma, Barrett in Titanic:“The Musical”and  Scrooge in “Scrooge The Musical” just to name a few.  Most recently for MLT he directed a production of “Young Frankenstein”which won the EMACT award for Best Musical and Best  Stage Direction f 2020. He also directed and produced a production  of “1776”  at historic Abbot Hall in which he also played John Adams.

He has also performed in many dramatic straight plays over the years  including “Brighton Beach Memoirs” Saltonstall’s Trial ,and  Juror #3 in  “12 Angry Men”which he also produced and directed. Bobby was honored to have traveled to Medellin Colombia in 2016 and 2019 with an impressive group of performers and theatre pros to bring a bit of Broadway to another rich cultural part of the world. Kelly Murphy has worked throughout Massachusetts both onstage as a performer and off-stage as a choreographer and director.  Kelly recently performed with Marblehead Little Theater as Rosie in Mamma Mia.  Some of her favorite roles include Alice Beane in Titanic and Alice in Addams Family.  She won an EMACT/DASH award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical.  One of her favorite onstage roles was as a proud and honored cast member of The Burlington Players production of Radium Girls which won “Best Show” at AACT National Theater Festival in Indiana competing with theater companies from all over the country.  Kelly has served as choreographer for several other groups including Wellesley Players, Concord Players, Pentucket Players, Burlington Players, En’tracte Theater and as choreographer/director for Stage 284 in Hamilton.  She has also choreographed at several area schools and will be choreographing SchoolHouse Rock Jr at Beverly Middle School this winter.


Sean Murphy was last seen as the Monster in Young Frankenstein at Marblehead Little Theater.  He has performed at several community theaters including Stage 284, Burlington Players, Concord Players and Wellesley Players.  Some of his favorite roles include: Mal in Addams Family, Thomas Jefferson in 1776, Murdoch in Titanic, and Enjolras in Les Miserables.  He was also a proud and honored cast member of The Burlington Players production of Radium Girls which won “Best Show” at AACT National Theater Festival in Indiana competing with theater companies from all over the country.  When Sean is not performing, he is a professional in the field of IT.

 

 

Becky Ruccio is thrilled to be performing in this incredible venue! Favorite past roles include Donna in Mamma Mia! (MLT), Siobhan in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime (MLT), Adelaide in Guys and Dolls (WAG), Roz in 9 to 5: The Musical (AFD), M’Lynn in Steel Magnolias (Concord Players), The Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods (Actors Inc.), Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar (Seacoast Rep.), Cassie in A Chorus Line (Amesbury Playhouse) and Diana in Next to Normal (MLT). She has been nominated for two DASH awards and one NHTA award and has a BFA in Musical Theater from Ithaca College. When not onstage, you can find her working for The Corporate Talent Department at The Cheesecake Factory. Special thanks to the cast and production team for sharing your many talents to create this wonderful experience.

 

 

Thomas Smoker earned a bachelor of science degree in Bible/Music Ministries from Lancaster Bible College, Lancaster, PA, as well as a graduate degree in Vocal Performance from The Boston Conservatory. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Voice at Berklee College of Music, as well as an adjunct faculty member in the performing arts department at Endicott College, where he directs the Constellation Interfaith Music Ensemble and teaches performing arts classes. Thomas has over 15 years of experience in teaching, coaching, directing, leading workshops and symposiums, and is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), the  A cappella Educators Association (AEA), as well as the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). Previously, Thomas was the Vocal Music Teacher at the Pingree School. He regularly music directs, composes and arranges for collegiate, community and high school musicals, concerts and special events. Thomas also maintains a healthy performance career in opera, oratorio, musical theater, and solo concerts as he is often sought after throughout New England and Mid- Atlantic, and has even gotten to sing back up for Josh Groban at the TD Garden and Tanglewood.

 

 

Crystal Van Artsdalen,  mezzo-soprano, hails from Gardners, Pennsylvania, but is now happy to call Gloucester, MA home. Prior to moving to Massachusetts, Crystal had spent more than 15 years working in professional regional theatre, both as an actress onstage and as a technician backstage. Much like tonight’s show, she has always loved working on shows based around fairy tales and fantasy. Some of her favorite roles include Aunt Eller in “Oklahoma!”, Mother Superior in “Nunsense II: The Second Coming”, Queen Aggravain in “Once Upon a Mattress” and Billie Dwyer in “Unnecessary Farce.” When not performing, Crystal loves to work backstage and currently serves as the assistant tech director at Stage 284 in Hamilton, MA.
