From the working waterfront to the high seas, Beyond Beauport captures the nautical adventures of a Gloucester woman looking to catch a second wind. Shannon has salt in her veins and ancestors in her head, as she sails the eastern seaboard searching for the treasure of the fearless 18th century pirate Anne Bonny, and hoping to find herself in the process. Full of history, geography, maritime life, storms, and recipes, Masciarelli has created an exciting tale of today’s woman at one with the sea.” – JoeAnn Hart, author, Float
Lee Broom  5.0 out of 5 stars Really fun pirate adventure and treasure hunt!A really fun modern day pirate story! Shannon finds out she’s descended from real life pirates, so it’s the beginning of an adventure. Her Uncle Paddy helps her research the history, and she learns the ropes of captaining his boat. They travel from Florida to lots of the islands and search for lost treasure. It’s a very cool story and is a beautiful setting through the sailing ship and all the historical and tropical sites.

It gets scary when drug smugglers board their boat out on the open sea, and when one has a personal grudge against Shannon. That’s a dangerous scenario that’s all too real nowadays, and it makes for a nervous time of reading as we wait to see what happens. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it really made me want to go on a traveling adventure (not the hijacking, though). I highly recommend this one, Beyond Beauport, and can’t wait to read more from the author.

Shannon is a compilation of many women of her time. Similar to many other young women in her island community of Gloucester, Massachusetts, Shannon had her children at a young age and at age 40 they were grown and she longed for adventure. And boy did she find it! You will enjoy this story with its many twists and turns; it is a page turner and the author is a fabulous story teller who has created an exciting book of intrigue, vividly describing the magic of sailing and the thrills that one experiences on the high seas. I particularly enjoyed the history Mr. Masciarelli provided as well as the warm family dynamic and the friends – and bad guys – met along the journey. A remarkable book that will want you wanting more of this author’s works. Highly recommend.
